Discover the Best Astrophotos!

In Tartu, you can still catch some of Estonia’s best recent amateur astrophotographs: the winning entries from the Tartu Observatory’s 2023 competition are on display in front of the observatory on Toomemägi until the end of the year. To see the world’s best, you’ll need to look online or travel to England.

Entries for the latest Tartu Observatory astrophotography competition were submitted in six categories—Moon, Deep Sky, Urban Astrophotography, Solar System, Starry Sky, and Atmospheric Phenomena—and across three age groups: up to 12, 12–18, and adults.

The exhibition is on display in Tartu at Uppsala tn 8.

If the local highlights aren’t enough, take a look at the winners of one of the world’s most prestigious astrophotography competitions, organised by the Royal Greenwich Observatory. Last year’s contest featured 11 categories—from the Sun to the aurora—and attracted participants from around the globe.

For a deeper experience, you can also view these images as large-format prints at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, London. The exhibition runs until August 3, 2026—and since it’s the world’s largest maritime museum, the trip is well worth it for the rest of the collection as well.
